When Izabela Macdonald joined Bouchier in 2020 as a summer student in the Maintenance department, she saw it as a temporary role— a way to pass the time after graduating from the University of Alberta. However, she quickly discovered a welcoming workplace and a company culture that made her want to stay beyond her initial three-month contract. What started as a short-term job evolved into a journey of growth and development within the People & Culture (P&C) team.
Izabela transitioned into Human Resources as a temporary Recruitment Administrator during the winter ramp-up hiring season. Initially, she wasn’t sure Human Resources was the right fit for her, but over time, she embraced new challenges and took on a full-time role as a Recruitment Coordinator, which eventually led to a position as Shared Services Coordinator.
Most recently, in December 2024, Izabela stepped into the role of Supervisor of Recruitment & Employee Experience, where she now oversees the recruitment function as well as employee engagement initiatives. She’s excited to be involved in hiring, on-site events, benefits, and overall employee experience—helping to shape a positive and supportive workplace for her colleagues.
Throughout her time at Bouchier, Izabela has had the opportunity to work in multiple departments, gaining a broad perspective on the company. She credits her growth to the mentorship and encouragement she received from her leaders, who continuously pushed her to step outside her comfort zone and take on new challenges.
One of the biggest personal challenges Izabela has faced is her aversion to change. “I have never been the kind of person to welcome change with open arms,” she admits. However, over the years, she has learned that embracing change can lead to unexpected opportunities and personal growth. “So much good can come from change if you just let it happen and ride the wave.”
From a summer student in Maintenance to a leadership role in People & Culture, Izabela’s journey at Bouchier is a testament to the power of embracing change and seizing new opportunities. We’re excited to see where her journey takes her next!
