Over the past five years with Bouchier, Chad Desjarlais has turned dedication and curiosity into an inspiring career path by showing up, stepping up, and embracing every opportunity that comes your way.

Chad joined Bouchier in August 2019 as a seasonal labourer at Kearl Lake IOL Roads and Grounds. When winter arrived, he was transported to Firebag, where he would continue to return as a seasonal team member until 2021, when he joined us as a full-time team member. He remained in a labourer position until 2024, when he transitioned into a Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) role. In February 2025, Chad stepped into a leadership role with operations as a Lead Hand with the Roads and Grounds team at Suncor Firebag.

Looking back on his journey, Chad is grateful for the trust and recognition Bouchier has given him. “Bouchier has recognized my dedication to the company and my hard work and provided me with opportunities to learn and grow,” he said. Along the way, he credits key mentors such as Peter Inkster, Jimmy Neuman, Lee Aubertin, Ken Jones, and Dave Boyer for making a lasting impact on his development.

Like many who take on new responsibilities, Chad faced challenges, especially during his time in HSE. “One of the few challenges I had to overcome was navigating incidents in an HSE role,” he shared. “Fortunately, my leaders were able to guide me and provide me with all the assistance I needed to learn.”

Chad’s advice to others is rooted in his own experience: “Put in an honest effort. Try your best to learn the scope of your work to the best of your ability. Take on new challenges out in the field so that you’re always pushing yourself and learning.” He also highlights the importance of getting involved in “niche” jobs — the ones that often get overlooked but offer valuable learning opportunities.

With a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a respect-first mindset, Chad Desjarlais continues to lead by example. His story is a true reflection of what it means to grow within the company — not just in title, but in knowledge, responsibility, and character.

Congratulations, Chad, on your continued success!
